Ethereal Moon Mousery Terms and Policies

Effective Date: 01/11/2026

Ethereal Moon Mousery is a small hobby mousery based in California focused on health, temperament, ethical placement, and responsible breeding.

By submitting an application, placing a deposit, or purchasing any mouse from Ethereal Moon Mousery, you agree to the following terms.

Placement purchase requirements

Minimum Standards

To protect our animals, we require:

  • appropriate enclosure size and safe ventilation
  • suitable bedding (NO cedar; no scented bedding)
  • appropriate diet and clean water
  • enrichment and clutter to reduce stress

We may request enclosure photos/videos prior to approval.

Social & Housing Requirements

  • Females must be adopted in groups (minimum: 3 females) unless otherwise approved
  • Males must be housed alone (or with special exceptions for experienced breeders where safe)

We reserve the right to decline any sale if we believe placement is not safe or appropriate.

Age Requirements and Gifts

Mice are living animals and require ongoing care.

  • We do not place mice as surprise gifts.
  • If a mouse is intended for someone else, that person must apply and communicate with us directly.

Minimum ages:

  • Pet adoption: 15+ (minors require parent/guardian approval)
  • Breeding animals: 18+
  • No parent/guardian approval = must be 18+

Deposits and Reservations

Reservation Process

  • Mice are first come, first served unless reserved with a deposit.
  • A deposit confirms a reservation and removes that mouse from availability.

Deposit Amount

Reservation deposits are typically 50% of the purchase price.

Deposit Policy

Deposits are non-refundable if:

  • the buyer cancels,
  • the buyer fails to complete payment,
  • or the buyer does not schedule pickup/transport in the required timeframe.

Deposits are refunded if:

  • Ethereal Moon Mousery cancels the sale (example: health concern, mis-sexing, safety/temperament concern, or if the mouse becomes unavailable).

In some situations, deposits may be transferred to a different available mouse or to a future litter credit (at our discretion).

Payments

Accepted payment methods: (Venmo / PayPal / CashApp / cash)

  • Final balance is due before pickup/transfer.
  • No animal leaves our care until paid in full.

Pick Up, Holding, and Late Policy

Pickup Timeline

Once a mouse is ready for transfer, pickup must occur within 7 days, and transport must occur within 30 days unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Holding

We can hold fully paid animals for up to 30 days pending breeder descretion.

If pickup is delayed without arrangement, we may:

  • charge a boarding fee of $2 per day, OR
  • cancel the reservation and rehome the animal (depending on the situation)

Transport and Delivery

We do not ship mice through USPS.

We may work with:

  • reputable ground transporters, OR
  • local delivery within 50 miles.

Transport Responsibility

Transport arrangements and cost are the buyer’s responsibility, including:

  • booking
  • carrier communication
  • fees and delays
  • risk associated with transport stress

When Responsibility Transfers

Once the animal is released to the transporter/carrier, the animal is considered in the buyer’s custody.

We do our best to ensure the animal is healthy at the time of transfer, but transport stress is outside our control.

Health and Statement Garantee

At Time of Transfer

All mice are sold in good faith and are healthy to the best of our knowledge at time of transfer.

7-Day Illness Window

If the mouse becomes severely ill or dies within 7 days of transfer, you must:

  • notify us as soon as symptoms are observed,
  • provide photos/videos,
  • provide enclosure details (bedding, food, temp, cage mates)

This time limit may be extended in rare cases involving confirmed infectious diseases when all of the following apply:


  • Buyer provides laboratory testing results. (PCR or equivalent)
  • The condition is known to be capable of asymptomatic/latent presentation, and
  • Ethereal Moon Mousery tests our current stock and receives a matching positive result.

In such cases, resolution may include replacement after an appropriate quarentine/recovery period and confirmed negative testing when applicable, mousery credit, or transfer of the reservation to another eligible animal (including when available, through a trusted partner/sister program)

If eligible, we may offer:

  • replacement mouse (when available), OR
  • mousery credit equal to purchase price

1-Year Genetic Guarantee 

Genetic outcomes cannot be guaranteed, but we stand behind our lines. If the mouse dies unexpectedly within 1 year due to suspected congenital/genetic causes, we may offer a replacement or credit.

This does not include illness/injury related to husbandry, transport stress, fights, improper introductions, or accidents. 

Veterinary Bills

We do not cover veterinary or lab testing cost.

Quarentine Policy

If you currently own rodents or other small animals, we strongly recommend quarantining new arrivals for at least 6 weeks in a separate airspace without breeding or 12 weeks if you do breed in quarentine.

Pet Only VS. Breeding Rights

Some mice are sold as:

  • Pet Only, or
  • Breeding Rights

Pet-only animals may not be bred. If a pet-only animal is bred, future sales may be denied.

Right to Refuse Sale

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any sale if:

  • we believe placement is unsafe or unsuitable,
  • the buyer is not meeting care standards,
  • communication becomes hostile or dishonest,
  • or circumstances change affecting animal welfare.

If we cancel, any payments already made will be refunded unless the buyer has violated these terms (example: harassment, threats, chargeback attempts).

Rehome Policy/Right of First Contact

If at any point you are no longer able to keep your mouse/mice, you agree to notify Ethereal Moon Mousery.

We will make every reasonable effort to:

  • assist with rehoming resources, and/or
  • help facilitate a safe placement.

For biosecurity reasons, we do not accept returns into our main colony, but in some situations we may be able to:

  • take the animal back under separate quarantine housing, or
  • assist with placement through our trusted network.

Mice may not be surrendered to a pet store, feeder sale, or unvetted third party.

Privacy Policy

Ethereal Moon Mousery values your privacy.

What We Collect

We may collect:

  • your name
  • email address
  • city/state
  • application answers (including enclosure details)
  • communication records (messages/email)

How We Use Information

We use this information to:

  • review applications
  • communicate about availability and adoption
  • maintain accurate records for ethical placement

Sharing

We do not sell your information. We may share limited information only when required for transport coordination or legal compliance.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect private information but cannot guarantee security of third-party platforms (Facebook, email, website forms).
